Mamma Who Bore Me

So... How did I get in to performing?

My Mother.

My mom has been singing all of her life. She was offered a recording contract when I was 2 or 3 but would have had to leave me to go on tour if she'd have taken it. So she didn't.

As long as I can remember I've been singing. I remember being 4 and watching the 10th anniversary Les Miserables dream cast and singing along. I told my mom that I wanted to be just like them. I also loved "A Chorus Line" from a young age. I loved the gold sequins on the fabulous costumes, it was all like magic. Of course, we skipped the whole "Tits and Ass" scene!

At age 11 me and my mom both decided to try out for a small production of "A Christmas Carol". We both made it and it was my 1st show. She was never one to really drag me into the theatre, but she clearly wanted me there. And it didn't hurt that I felt the need to perform.

Halfway through "A Christmas Carol" rehearsals, my mom found out she was going to have to have surgery. She dropped the show. As much as I love my mother, this brought my tenseness in rehearsals down... a lot. I was no longer doing it for her, but I was doing it for me.

No sleep in Heaven, or Bethlehem,
Bekah
